The first to settle near the river were the Mikmaq, using the river as portage. The name origin is from the Mikmag; Epetkutogoyek, meaning: the river bends like a bow. The nickname is the chocolate river because the water looks like chocolate. Nova Scotia founded the river in 1968. They were expelled in 1755 during the 7 years of war. In 1968, a wall made of rock and earth was built between Moncton and Riverview to prevent flooding. This restricted the movement of fish and was reopened on April 14th, 2010, finished in 2015 2. Tidal Bore: The Tidal Bore is from the natural surging waves in the Bay of Fundy that occurs twice daily. When the waters in the Bay surge through this causes the water to surge through the petitcodiac in one wave. The tidal bore can reach 3 to 60 cm. The moon affects these tides by pushing and pulling with gravity.The Super Moon caused the tidal bore to be bigger because the moon was closer to the earth.
